The coins you collect will determine your score for each level while the stars will open bonus paths in the games. You should also remember to gather as many coins as you can and to watch out for gold stars. If you touch them, you will lose a life so be very careful. All you need to do is stomp over their heads.
There is nothing to fear about them because they easily defeated. Some of them are friendly and will give you guidance on your adventure while some are your enemies.
